What is Human Design?

At its core, Human Design is a personalized decision-making apparatus. It can definitely be used for so much more, i.e. understanding your purpose, improving your relationships, doing incredibly deep and effective shadow work, and unlocking your potential, but its primary purpose is to move decision-making authority from the external to the internal.

Currently, we are taught to seek external authorities when making decisions. We consult the experts, talk to our friends and family to get outside opinions, make pro/con lists, etc. From there, we are expected to use logic to decide which choice benefits not only us but also as many other people as possible.

Human Design posits that this method is not only inefficient but also ineffective. After all, logic is very much determined by society. The logical decision to own a Prius in Los Angeles, CA where they have a smog problem would very likely seem ridiculous in rural Alabama where you obviously need a pickup truck. Instead, Human Design asserts that better and more aligned decisions are made with the body based on your Type, Strategy, and Authority.

Human Design establishes your Type, Strategy, and Authority by using a combination of Astrology, the I Ching, the Hindu Chakra System, the Kabballah, Quantum Physics, and Genetics to determine your unique set of data points.

Based on these data points, you will fall into one of five different types. Each of these types has a strategy for making decisions.

Human Design Reading for Successful Decisions
Type Strategy
Manifestor To inform
Generator Wait to respond
Manifesting Generator Wait to respond, then inform
Projector Wait for the invitation
Reflector Wait a full lunar cycle for major decisions

Additionally, your data points will identify which of the 7 different authorities are unique to you.

Authority Approach
Emotional Need time to ride the emotional wave before making a decision
Sacral Gut check: yes, no, maybe
Splenic Instinct and intuition
Ego Do what’s in your best interest
Self-Projected Talk it out
Mental Talk it out in the right environment
Lunar Wait for a full lunar cycle

Both your strategy and your authority are used in developing best practices in decision-making. For example, I’m an Emotional Manifestor. My strategy is to inform. This isn’t so much to help make decisions as it is to lay the groundwork for others to accept my decisions. My emotional authority reigns for actual decision-making, and it requires patience.
